HELSINKI: Lohikeitto, the traditional salmon soup

Helsinki is one of the most mysterious capitals in Europe. It is also one of the cities where the smells from the kitchens will enchant you.

One of the traditional dishes worth tasting is “lohikeitto”. It is one of the most famous dishes and is the most loved by the locals.

Salmon soup consists of salmon fillets, carrots, leeks, boiled potatoes, spices, salt, dill, herbs and black pepper. It has a nice, creamy taste and texture due to the cream used. Chefs also use whole milk.

The magic of the recipe is the salmon fillet without the skin and the fish broth used. In fact, some chefs use chicken or vegetable broth.

Some restaurants will tell you that the salmon is fresh, but even if it’s frozen, you’ll be licking your fingers at the hot dish they serve you.
