LILLE: Moules – Frites, the ultimate dish of the city!

Dear sports fans,

Your presence in Lille will take you on a journey through the world of sports and haute cuisine.

The French city is famous for its wonderful dishes, refined cuisine and unique flavors.

One of the dishes that the locals have every reason to be proud of is Moules – Frites.

It may be considered by many as the national dish of Belgium, but it is a very beloved and traditional dish in the north of France. Lille could of course not be an exception.

Moules – Frites consists of steamed mussels. It is served with french fries and you can accompany them with any sauce you like. It is usually accompanied by mayonnaise.

They are often cooked with wine, but some chefs prefer to add beer or cider. There are not a few who prefer to cook with a sufficient amount of garlic or basil.

On the walk you will take in Lille, it is certain that you will find many restaurants that offer this particular food.

Historically, it is first encountered at the end of the 19th century. Specifically, at a cooking exhibition that took place in Liege in the distant 1875.

Those who visit Lille always make it a point to enjoy Moules – Frites in one of the city’s restaurants. You can find them from Michelin-starred restaurants to neighborhood restaurants that don’t feature as much in the travel guides.

A good choice is the restaurant Aux Moules de Lille (11 Pl. Rihour, 59000 Lille).
