ANOETA STADIUM

It is one of the newest stadiums in Spain, which holds 39,313 fans and is considered one of the jewels in the Basque Country. It was built in 1993 and was initially considered a Stadium with the athletics couloir it had. In 2019 took its final shape which is now a state-of-the-art stadium

*** LA CONCHA BEACH

It is considered the most beautiful beach in Spain! It looks like a shell that is “dressed” in golden sand. The walks on its huge sidewalk will be unforgettable.

*** PARTE VEJA – OLD TOWN

In the old town you will feel the atmosphere of the bullfights of the past, as the arched Plaza de la Constitución once hosted bullfights and spectators watched from the balconies. Don’t miss Mercado de la Bretxa which is a covered market hall dating back to the 19th century and of course visit the 16th century Iglesia de San Vicente, the oldest Gothic style church in the city.

Welcome to the museum, which hosts many exhibits from the earliest years to the present day and which essentially concern the History of the Basques at a global level.

*** MONTE URGULL AND MOTAKO GAZTELUA

Visit the hill to enjoy the panoramic view of the city. At the top of the hill enter the Motako Gaztelua or Castillo de la Mota military fortress, which dates back to the 12th century and has been a stronghold for centuries!

*** PALACIO DE MIRAMAR (Paseo Miraconcha, 48, 20007 San Sebastian, Gipuzkoa)

It dates back to 1893 and was built at the request of Queen María Cristina of Austria after a vacation in the city. It was designed by the English architect Selden Womun and for that reason it looks like a country house of the English nobility.

*** CATHEDRAL OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD (Urdaneta Kalea, 12, 20006 San Sebastian, Gipuzkoa)

Opened in 1897. Τhe main feature of the church is the sharp spire at the top. It is the tallest building in San Sebastián, it has neo-gothic architecture and is influenced by the churches of Germany and France.

*** BASILICA OF SAINT MARY OF THE CHORUS (31 de Agosto Kalea, 46, 20003 San Sebastian, Gipuzkoa)

It opened its gates in 1774 and is an impressive Baroque church. You will be impressed by the facade and the main altar dedicated to the city’s patron saint, the Virgen del Coro.

*** ZURRIOLA BEACH and ONDARRETA BEACH

It’s not just La Concha Beach that will leave you speechless. A walk to these two beaches is worth it to clear your mind and feel the caress of the sea!

Next to Zurriola beach you will find this building of modern architecture that is a harmony of the natural and the artificial! Everything is hosted there, festivals, exhibitions of all kinds, concerts, theater performances, etc. It is worth seeing the details of the building’s architecture.

*** AIETE PALACE ((Palacio de Aiete, Aiete Pasealekua, 65, 2, 20009 San Sebastian, Gipuzkoa)

Built by order of the Dukes of Bailén in 1878, it is a neoclassical building and for many years it was the residence of kings and nobles. On the 1st floor you will find the offices of the House of Peace and Human Rights.

ΤΗINGS TO DO

*** Visit Eureka! Zientzia Mseuoa. It is an interactive museum for young and old where you will meet tropical jungle snakes, desert lizards and some marine fish among others that will help you understand why their natural spaces should be kept clean.

*** It is worth taking a walk in the Gipuzkoa plaza, where a small lake stands out and in which ducks and swans swim.

*** Tabakalera is a state-of-the-art cultural center that used to be a tobacco factory. If you have time, we would recommend you visit it.

*** If you want to relax, take a walk to Chillida-Leku and Alderdi Eder parkea.

*** The Plaza de Toros de Illumbe is a historic and impressive bullring.

FOOD AND DRINK

In the city center and especially in the Old City, there are many restaurants and hundreds of pintxos bars, as tapas are called in the Basque Country. Enjoy pintxos with wine. You must try foie gras, salt cod, txuleta (grass-fed beef) and idiazabal cheese. San Sebastián has many restaurants that have been awarded Michelin stars. The best accompaniment to your meal is cider. This drink has been produced for centuries in San Sebastian.

WHERE TO STAY

You can find relatively good value hotels in the city center and in Old City. However, there are hotels in every neighborhood of the city for all budgets.

*** The Aquarium of San Sebastian is an excellent choice.

*** Igeldo mendiko behatokia is a very good choice if you want to be children again!

*** You have many options to make your purchases, such as Garbera and ARCCO.
