London is a bustling and beautiful tourist destination, not only for sports enthusiasts, but also for those who love museums, unique architecture, parks and multiculturalism.
If you have time, we would recommend taking the train from central London and visiting Oxford. It is about a 50 minute to 1 hour journey. The famous city has the oldest university museum of art, archaeology and natural history in Great Britain.
This is the Ashmolean Museum and was founded in 1683 by the English astrologer and politician Elias Ashmole (1617 – 1692).
Over the centuries, the Museum has continuously enriched its collections with sculptures, natural history objects, paintings, ceramics, etc.
The museum’s halls host exhibits from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, China, India, Persia, the Mediterranean and other great civilizations.
See collections of rare vases, coins, objects, pottery, sculptures and jewelry.
See works of art by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Albrecht Dürer, Raphael, Rembrandt, Picasso and others.
Of particular interest is the “Alfred Jewel”, which is a masterpiece of medieval jewelry and Anglo-Saxon art.
