STADION POD CEBRAT’OM RUŽOMBEROK

It is one of the most picturesque stadiums in Slovakia. It was opened in 1955 and after several reconstructions in the 21st century, it took its final form. It is the “home” of MFK Ružomberok and means “Stadium under the Čebrat Hill”. Its capacity is 4,876 seats and meets the specifications to host important football matches. *** ANDREJ HLINKA SQUARE

It dates from the 14th century and buildings from the 18th century are preserved. Tour the square and see the city’s national cultural monuments located there.

*** ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH & MAUSOLEUM OF ANDREJ HLINKA

A visit to the iconic church – a trademark of Ružomberok should be included in your schedule. There is also the Andrej Hlinka Mausoleum since 1939. It is considered a place of memory for one of the most important Slovak public activists in Czechoslovakia before World War II.

*** CASTLE OF ST. ŽOFIA (Zarevúca 034 01, 034 01 Ružomberok)

The castle was built at the end of the 140th century and was one of the oldest castles in Slovakia. It was turned into a court, prisons, barracks. At the end of the 20th century it was neglected, and in 2002 a very large part of the castle was demolished, with the result that it then passed into private ownership.

*** TOWN HALL (Námestie Andreja Hlinku 1098/1, 034 01 Ružomberok)

It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city dating from the 19th century. You will be impressed by its decorative facade and corner tower.

***  RUŽOMBEROK STAIRS

It is one of the most photographed spots in the city. The total of six staircases consisting of 579 steps connect the central square with the other areas of the city.

*** SYNAGOGUE (Panská 1070/3, 034 01 Ružomberok)

It is a magnificent neo-Romanesque and Moorish style building. It dates from 1880 and from that time the Aron ha-kodeš shrine and the rare chandeliers have been preserved.

*** LIPTOV MUSEUM (Námestie Š. N, Štefana Nikolaja Hýroša 10, 034 01 Ružomberok)

A museum with exhibits of geology, palaeontology, botany, zoology, archaeology, folklore, sacred art, papermaking and the history of Liptov is worth a visit. you will also see works by Andrej Hlinka.

*** BIRTH HOUSE OF ANDREJ HLINKA

It is worth visiting the house where Andrej Hlinka was born on September 27, 1864. It is in Černová, about 10 minutes by car from the center. Enjoy the work and personal items of the Slovak patriot.

*** MUSEUM OF HANDMADE PAPER PRODUCTION

In the town of Ludrova, about 10-15 minutes drive from the center of Ružomberok, you will find a unique museum where you will learn all about the 500-year history of hand-made paper production without the use of modern machinery.

*** SCOUT MUSEUM OF VACLAV RUBES

It is a unique museum about the development of the scouting movement in Slovakia. You will find scout badges, uniforms, stamps and tens of thousands of archival items.

*** Ludovit Fulla Gallery Ružomberok is an excellent museum of contemporary art.

*** Archaeological OpenAir Museum Liptovská Mara is a place that deserves your attention. It is located about 20 km away from the city center.

*** Ľupča Castle! If you have time, it’s worth the one hour or so road trip to see an impressive castle.

*** Castle Strečno is about 50 minutes away from Ružomberok and if you have time, it’s worth seeing up close.

FOOD AND DRINK

Try the bryndzové halušky (Sheep cheese dumplings), sviečková na smotane which is beef with sauce, potato dumplings stuffed with smoked meat, kapustnica and the traditional soup cesnaková zupepka which is inside bread. If you like sausages then try krvavničky. For sweets, eat the traditional Skalický Trdelník. Accompany your meal with beer or wine.

The city has several hotels or apartments that can serve you, both in the center and a few kilometers outside the center. Prices are for all wallets.

FUN AND SHOPPING

*** Obrovo is a place worth visiting with your children for many activities.

*** Tatralandia is the largest water park with plenty of games for young and old. It is located about half an hour away from the city center.

*** STOP SHOP, CityMarket and Obchodný dom VEREX are three great places to shop.

 HOW TO GET AROUND

The most beautiful way to get around the city is on foot οr by bike.
