JANA DALINA STADIUM

It is a nice stadium with a capacity of 1,000 people. It was built in 1938 and is considered the “pride” of football fans in Valmiera. It is named after the Latvian runner who became the country’s first athlete to win an Olympic medal in 1932 in the 50km. It is in a wonderful sports facility that includes, among other things, two basketball courts, gyms and another for mini soccer. Nearby you will find a playground and an amusement park.

One of the most beautiful rocks in the country is located in Valmiera. It is 15 meters high, 400 meters long, it is the largest white sandstone in the Baltic and offers a wonderful view of the ancient Gauja river valley.

FOOD AND DRINK

Valmiera is a culinary paradise. It has many restaurants with American, Asian, Latin American, Russian and Mediterranean cuisine. The locals would recommend you to try carnikavas negi, roast pork piglets, beef, chicken, potato pancakes, duck meat and putra. Also try asindesa (blood sausage), smoked fish, karbonade (schnitzel), dumplings, various kinds of soups (especially cold beet soup) and the special meat recipes (especially pork). Also, the bacon rolls, piragi and the wonderful cottage cheeses are worth tasting. For dessert we would recommend you to try black rye bread, ekler, abolu platsmaize (apple flatbread), sklandrausis and pancakes. Accompany your food with beer or wine.
