TOUMBA STADIUM

It was opened in 1959 and is one of the hottest stadiums in Greece and Europe. Its capacity is 28,700 seats and it is located in one of the most popular neighborhoods of Thessaloniki. In the past it has been used, apart from being the “home” of PAOK FC, for football matches of the National team. Concerts of leading artists have also been held. In 2004, it was the training ground for the football teams that participated in the Athens Olympic Games. Among other things, visit the PAOK FC store located at the stadium. Nearby you will find places to eat and stay.

*** WHITE TOWER (Thessaloniki 546 21)

It is the trademark of the city. It is an Ottoman-built tower that was built in the 15th century and was, among other things, a guard house and a prison. Today it is a museum.

It is a church with Byzantine architecture and is considered one of the most beautiful in Greece. In the basement of the church is the place of martyrdom of Saint Dimitrios.

Choriatiki salad and souvlaki with pita are the hallmarks of traditional Greek cuisine. Try gyros, burgers, pastitsio, moussaka, lettuce dolmades, bean salad, dolmades, calamari, octopus, fish, tzatziki, cheese pie and spinach pie. You can also try yuvarlakia, garritsa, trachanas, peas, beans, okra, stuffed and yuvetsi. In Thessaloniki they also love kapamas, meatballs, meat with quince and Smyrna souzoukas. For sweets, try bougatsa, galaktoboureko, kadaifi, lukumades, kourabiedes, melomakarona, baklava, rice milk, tsoureki, halva, pasteli and diples.  Be sure to try the delicious buns and the popular Panorama triangles!
