It is the «home» οf AS Monaco FC with a capacity of 16.500 seats. Stade Luis II opened in 1939 as the original stadium of AS Monaco. Since 1985 it has essentially its current form. In addition to the football team, it has sports facilities and an indoor underground court. Major professional boxing world title fights have been hosted in the past.

*** CASINO MONTE CARLO (Pl. du Casino, 98000 Monaco)

Opened in 1865 and is a gambling and entertainment complex. It includes one of the oldest casinos in the world, the Monte Carlo Opera House and the city’s Ballet Bureau. Its exquisite architecture inspired Ian Fleming’s first novel with James Bond, «Casino Royale». There is a strict dress code, as shorts and flip flops are not allowed, while men after 20.00 should wear a jacket in the private gambling area.

*** OCEANOGRAPHIC MUSEUM (Av. Saint-Martin, 98000 Monaco)

It is perched on a rock and next to the beautiful gardens of Princess Grace. The aim was to promote knowledge about the sea and the creatures that live in it. Take a closer look at whales, sharks, aquariums with about 6,000 species of fish. Also, objects that were used in the research trips of Jacques Yves Cousteau can be found in the museum.

*** PRINCE’S PALACE (MC 98015 Monaco Cedex).

It was built in 1191 as a fortress of the Republic of Genoa and since 1297 has been the official residence of the Prince of Monaco, being the House of Grimaldi. It is possible to enter the palace and take a tour of the palace’s riches, such as the 17th-century “State Apartments”, see the “Clock Tower”, the flag at the “Sainte-Marie Tower”, the Courtyard of Honors and the frescoes of 16th century Genoese artists.

See the cars that are a personal collection of Prince Rainier III of Monaco, whose steering wheel passed through his hands for a period of 30 years. There are about 100 cars from Europe and the USA.

*** ZOOLOGICAL GARDENS (Pl. du Canton, 98000 Monaco)

In 1902 the purpose of founding the Museum was to preserve the remains of primitive humanity that had been found in excavations in the area. It was built in 1959 on the site where it is now and you will see collections from the ice age and the evolution of the human race.

For lovers of stamp collectors, we consider that you have come to the right place. Here you will find rare stamps with the postal history of the Principality. You will also see coins and documents used to print the first stamp from 1885 to the present day. It is a unique experience.

*** NOUVEAU MUSEE NATIONAL DE MONACO (8 avenue Hector Otto – 98000 Monaco)

In this museum you will see the heritage of the Principality of Monaco with the works of art, that you will enjoy in two exhibitions in its two locations: Villa Paloma and Villa Sauber. You will find that Monaco’s roots have always had an artistic, scientific and cultural aura.

*** If you enjoy walking, then we recommend that you take a hike to the Jardin Exotique de Monaco located on a hillside in the city.

*** Monte Carlo has other gardens that will fascinate you. For example Jardin Japonais-Princesse Grace, Jardins de Saint-Martin, UNESCO Garden and Roseraie Princesse Grace.

*** Fort Antoine Theatre! If you have time, visit the small amphitheater that was originally a fortress in the early 18th century and has now been turned into a cultural monument.

*** Football fans can visit Grimaldi Forum, where the draws of the groups of the UEFA European competitions are held.

FOOD AND DRINK

If you want to live and eat like a Monegasque, then you should eat Barbajuan. It is a variety of fried stuffed with ricotta cheese and celery and is served as an appetizer. It can also be stuffed with onion, rice, leek, spinach and parmesan.The famous Bouillabaisse fish dish, the Tasty Potato Puffs called Gnocchi and the Porchetta which is Pig Roast, are considered the best dishes of Monte Carlo. Try both Fougasse bread and local Pissaladière pizza. Drink beer or wine to accompany them.
