This stadium has a huge history. The first one built on this site was in 1892 and since then there have been reconstructions and renovations, taking its final form in 2000. In 1905 it was a state-of-the-art venue with a capacity of 60,000, even boasting a swimming pool! In 1992 when Sir John Hall became chairman of the club and with Kevin Keegan as manager, there were spectacular changes both inside the stadium and in the surrounding area and in 2000 the final refurbishment was completed, now seating 52,305. We would recommend taking the stadium tour and enjoying a drink at Shearer’s Bar.
