At the top of Festungsberg visit the impressive castle built in 1077 which offers spectacular views of the Alps, the river and the city. It is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe.

The palace with its dazzling gardens was built in 1606 by order of Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau as a residence for his mistress Salome Alt. You will be impressed by the statues depicting mythological themes and dating back to 1730.
*** MOZART’S BIRTHPLACE (Getreidegasse 9, 5020 Salzburg)
On the 3rd floor of the house the great composer was born in 1756 and Mozart’s family stayed from 1747 to 1773. Walk through his rooms and see his historic musical instruments, memorabilia and personal effects. Next door is another residence of the Mozart family who lived from 1773 to 1787 at Makartplatz 8.

It was also built in 1619 by the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg, Markus Sittikus von Hohenems and was his country residence. See the gardens and beautiful fountains and take a trip back in time.

It opened its gates in 1628 and its magnificent facade, impressive dome and exquisite baroque architecture will impress you. There is also the swimming pool where Mozart was baptized.

Tour the site of what was once the Cathedral Abbey. Here you will turn back time to the Middle Ages. The new fountain was built in 1732 and had Roman influence. The sculpture “Sphaera” which is 9 meters high and basically captures a man who can be anyone in a golden sphere with a neutral expression.

It is a unique experience and if you have time, it is worth experiencing. In the open-air museum you will see 100 original historical buildings that essentially tell stories of agriculture, trades, rural crafts and manufacturing. There you will see the agricultural history of the city over the last six centuries. Don’t forget to take the roller coaster for a ride on the historic railway that is a legacy of the steam engine era.

Salzburg is not only the city of Mozart, arts and museums. It is also the city of taste! Schnitzel is the trademark, not only of Salzburg, but of all of Austria. You can find restaurants with all cuisines, Asian, European, American and African! A traditional food of the city is the Tafelspitz which is boiled veal or beef in broth. The Bosna sausage and the Kasnocken are a must-try, as are of course the city’s fantastic sweets, the highlight of which is the Sachertorte. When leaving don’t forget to take the Mozart Balls.
