ROME: Discover the neighborhood where Francesco Totti grew up

Dear sports fans,

Rome is one of the most beautiful and touristic cities on the planet. Every street of the Italian capital has a distinct history.

One of the greatest players in the history of Italian football, Francesco Totti (27/9/1976), was born, grew up and became a man in Rome.

He grew up about 15 minutes walk from the Colosseum. Specifically in the Porta Metronia neighborhood! Roma’s iconic captain played for the “Giallorossi” from 16 to 41 years old and had 307 matches and 207 assists in 785 games!

From a young age he knew that football would be his life and that throughout his career he would stay in Rome on behalf of Roma.

His idol was Giuseppe Giannini who was Roma’s captain in the 1980s and 1990s.

At the age of 8 he played football for the first time at SMIT Trastevere and Lodigiani, which were relatively close to his home. Several scouts had singled him out, but his mother did not want to see little Francesco leave Rome. For this reason, he refused several proposals, including Milan.

Roma academy coach Gildo Giannini caught Lazio napping and took him in 1993.

He debuted at 16 and retired in 2017! For 24 consecutive years he never renounced Roma and served them until he was 41.

It’s worth taking a stroll through Porta Metronia and it’s possible to meet Francesco Totti, who never forgets his roots.
