Dear sports fans,
Did you know that Plovdiv has one of the oldest cultural institutions? The Archaeological Museum was opened in 1882 and was originally a mint.
It started operating as an Archaeological Museum in the 1920s and since then it has been one of the most visited places in Bulgaria.
The exhibits concern Prehistoric Art, Thracian Art, Ancient Greek Art, Roman Art, Medieval Art and Bulgarian Renaissance Art.
Also, the coin collection will fascinate you. You will find over 1,500 coins that will leave you speechless.
Don’t forget to see the hundreds of thousands of exhibits related to the history of Plovdiv.
Ethnographic documents and hundreds of images of famous Bulgarian painters complete the puzzle of wonderful images that you will have the opportunity to enjoy during your visit to the museum.
In the present phase there is a temporary exhibition with the discoveries made in 2023. This particular exhibition will last until August 27, 2024 and is located in room IX.
It is about the results of the excavations that took place in the city last year and all the findings are presented in a unique way.
Finally, don’t forget to browse the library of tens of thousands of books, with their history starting from the 19th century.
Typically the first recorded book dates back to June 12, 1945. You will find rare editions of books and we recommend that you find some free time and explore every nook and cranny of the Museum.
An important detail: The Museum is not open every day, as it is closed every Monday. The rest of the days it is open from 10 am to 6 pm.
