MANCHESTER: The library – an urban legend!

Dear sports fans,

Manchester is not only known for its two legendary football teams, Manchester United and Manchester City.

It is also known for its Universities. In fact, part of the city’s University is the John Rylands Research Institute and Library, which is considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.

It is housed in a neo-Gothic building and first opened its doors in 1900.

It contains special and rare collections including the Gutenberg Bible, Papyrus P52 which is considered the oldest surviving text of the New Testament, historical manuscripts from the Middle Ages and many more manuscripts or letters from scientists and writers of previous centuries.

Admission is free and the library is open to the public from Wednesday to Saturday (10am-5pm).

Its architecture is also very interesting, as it resembles a church and is built with red, shaded stone, sandstone, steel and brick.

See the elaborate facade of Deansgate, the two floors that look like three due to the strange architecture, the arched gate, the impressive windows, the highly decorated surfaces and experience the magic of a library visited by leading figures.
