Malmö is a culinary paradise. In general, Sweden boasts the world’s most unique sandwich-cake. It’s called “Smörgåstårta“.
It’s a shrimp and salmon cake sandwich, filled with delicious layers, creamy avocado, and a bread that’s not too dry.
It is a culinary originality, as the sandwich meets the cake and the Swedes use it at parties and celebrations.
Local cooks use, among other things, herbs, vegetables, sometimes rum, some “touches” of caviar, mayonnaise, beetroot, pea shoots, asparagus and it is served cold.
Tourists in Sweden always find a way to taste it, because it is one of the strangest dishes in the world. You don’t find them anywhere else, as avocado meets shrimp and salom, and the seemingly simple sandwich meets the complexity of cake.
Some restaurants have variations of Smörgåstårta that do not necessarily include salmon and shrimp. There are Smörgåstårta with a combination of cheese, ham, liver pate and eggs, Smörgåstårta with tuna and Smörgåstårta Italienisk which includes ham, mozzarella, olives, peppers and sun-dried tomatoes.
