Lisbon offers you a range of experiences and images with historical monuments, awesome stadiums, legendary streets and culinary delights.
At the same time, however, it is a place where great stars of the sport grew up and first played football.
Not many people know that Luis Figo started playing football in the streets of Cova de la Piedade, which is a suburb of Almada.
Almada is about half an hour’s drive from the center of Lisbon. Figo grew up in Cova de la Piedade, where he ran, played football in the streets around his house and then took the Lisbon ferry, when at 13 he joined Sporting Lisbon CP’s academies.
At club level he first played football at the age of 12 in Os Pastilhas based in Cova de la Piedade and starting from a neighborhood in Almada, he managed to become a football legend for Portugal.
He played for Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
He won Spanish and Italian championships, cups in Spain, Italy and Portugal, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Super Cup and won the ‘Ballon d’Or’ in 2000.
It is worth a walk through the streets that Luis Figo grew up in and never forgot.
In Almada, of course, Christ the King dominates and in Cova de la Piedade you will feel the aura of Luis Figo.
