Frankfurt is the city of businesses, banks, museums and great food.
It is also famous for its wonderful sweets. There is a cake that could even be described as “royal”. Its name testifies to this, as it is called “Frankfurt Crown Cake” or in German “Frankfurter Kranz”.
The cake dates back to the 18th century and has a huge history. All bakeries will offer it to you and we would recommend you to try it.
It is a classic German cake with buttercream. Bakers and confectioners bake it in a crown mold and fill it with buttercream.
The special feature is that there are three layers of sponge cake and there are layers of jam. The buttercream is sandwiched between and gives a unique feel and taste to anyone who tries it.
To make it look beautiful on the outside, confectioners cover it with caramelized walnuts, which in Germany are called “Krokant”.
It is so beautifully decorated that it gives the impression that it is a crown cake. The tops are topped with cherries or raspberries and look like diamonds or rubies.
