Dear sports fans,
Craiova is a city that has many options to spend your time, several museums, very nice landscapes, buildings with excellent architecture and of course an excellent cuisine.
Mămăliga is one of Romania’s traditional foods as a binder and especially in Craiova the locals have turned it into a “must eat”.
Most people know it as polenta which is cream and cheese. It is made from corn flour and in different countries outside of Romania you can find different variations of it.
It is a food that you can find from the Caucasus and Europe to Latin America.
Traditionally it was and still is eaten by farmers, who work long hours in the fields and want to fill their stomachs with a delicious meal. For some it is considered as the “awe rival” of bread!
You are very likely to find Mămăliga that also includes bacon, in addition to dairy products or corn.
In Craiova you will find many restaurants that offer it as a side dish to main meals. We would recommend you to try it in different restaurants, because each of them has its own “touch”!
An excellent choice is Restaurant Clasic Craiovita (Bulevardul Oltenia Nr. 43, Craiova).
