Dear sports fans,
Budapest will offer you unique tasting experiences! The cuisine of the Hungarian capital and Hungary as a whole is among the best in the world.
You will make a big mistake if you do not taste the Esterházy Torte during your visit. It is a traditional Hungarian cake named after Prince Paul III Anton Esterházy de Galántha (1786–1866), who was a member of the Esterházy dynasty and a diplomat of the Austrian Empire.
It is available in restaurants in all cities of Hungary as a dessert, but especially in Budapest, pastry chefs have turned this particular dessert into a “must eat”!
Its roots date back to the 19th century and for decades it was one of the first cakes eaten by families in Hungary. Also, local confectioners take care not to alter the traditional taste of the Esterházy Torte and they have succeeded famously.
This particular cake includes a buttercream that is sprinkled with cognac and sometimes vanilla. It has four to five layers of almond or walnut meringue dough and chocolate in stripes.
