BUDAPEST: Parliament’s little secrets

Here are some tips to keep in mind when you visit the Hungarian capital and decide to see the Parliament grounds.

Opening hours are from 8am to 6pm (April 1st – October 31st) and from 8am to 4pm (November 1st – March 31st).

The Parliament building bears the stamp of the architect Imre Steindl. It is neo-Gothic in style and has classical and medieval features that reflect the architecture of Budapest and Hungary.

Its decoration is among the most beautiful in most buildings in Europe. The main dome has been decorated with statues of Hungarian Kings and the interior decoration had Neo-Gothic features.

You will also find museums with free exhibitions about the construction of the Parliament, exhibits about the events of the 1956 revolution and the Hungarian National Assembly.

On top of that, you’ll find cases that are numbered with the politicians’ cigar holders! The 16 statues of Hungarian Leaders in the Dome Hall have a prominent place.
