Dear sports fans,
Budapest is an ideal destination to spend your summer or winter holidays.
But it is also a place that has given birth to one of the top footballers in the history of the sport.
Ferenc Puskás was born on April 1, 1927 and died on November 17, 2006.
As a footballer, he won five Spanish championships and three European Cups as a Real Madrid’s football player.
He was the top scorer in two seasons, 1959-60 and 1963-64.
He won the Ballon d’Or in 1954 and according to the authoritative French newspaper “L’Equipe” he was named the best European footballer of the 20th century.
In 1954, he reached the final of the FIFA World Cup with the Hungarian national team, but was defeated by the West German national team.
Walk around the neighborhoods of Budapest and you will see that the aura of Ferenc Puskás still exists in the atmosphere of the Hungarian capital.
The city has honored the “legend” of Hungarian football many times. Also, in various parts of Budapest there are statues of Puskás.
If you have time, it’s worth seeing the statue of Puskás teaching the secrets of the football to children playing in the street.
Puskás, who was also a great coach, is in his suit and doing tricks with the ball, with three children near him – statues who watch him with religious reverence!
The address to find the amazing sculpture is Budapest, Bécsi út 57.
