BRUGGE: The traditional beer that looks like nectar!

Dear sports fans,

Brugge is a wonderful city. It is famous for its outstanding architecture, fairy-tale neighborhoods, dazzling alleys, beautiful canals and of course for food and drink!

Brugge is famous for its beers and especially Brugse Zot. It is a refreshing blonde beer, which is especially appreciated by locals and tourists.

Whichever bar or restaurant you go to, we’re sure you’ll find this particular beer.

It dates back to the mid-19th century and is brewed in the heart of Bruges.

Those who have tried it say it is slightly sweet and very refreshing. You may also feel a fruity taste.

Many people ask where Brugse Zot comes from. Legend has it that in the 15th century the locals had revolted against Emperor Maximilian of Austria and taken him prisoner!

When Maximilian was freed, then he, in order to take revenge on the inhabitants who had captured him, had asked for the prohibition of any kind of celebration and festivities.

But the locals didn’t stop celebrating, they also organized a party in Maximilian’s honor and that’s how Brugse Zot was born, because Maximilian called the people of Bruges and the whole city a madhouse!
