Dear sports fans,
Braga is one of the most charming cities in Portugal and one of the cities worth visiting at least once in your life.
But did you know that it has the oldest Cathedral in Portugal? Specifically, it began to be built at the end of the 11th century and was erected many years before the founding of Portugal.
It is of Romanesque style, which is reflected in the Porta do Sol, the main portico and the arch of the monastery of Santo Amaro preserve the original Romanesque style. It also has Gothic, Baroque and Moorish features in its architecture.
The official date it was opened was August 28, 1089. For centuries it was the seat of the Archbishop of Braga.
Over the decades it has received some reconstructions and additions of important elements.
Also see the interior decoration with rare works of art, the impressive chapels and the museum with religious treasures.
There are also the remains of Portuguese kings.
