CHISINAU: Placinte, the wonderful traditional pastry

Dear sports fans,

Your stay in Chisinau should be combined with the tasting of traditional foods and sweets. The capital of Moldova is famous for its excellent and original cuisine. It is also famous for its sweets that have influences from Romania, Ukraine, Russia and their history reaches back to Ancient Rome.

Placinte is a traditional sweet of Moldova. It is a thin cake that is either round or square in shape.

Bakers usually fill it with apples or soft cheese, but there are other recipes that elevate the placinte.

For example, you can find placinte with chocolate or placinte with spinach and cheese. There are other variations such as with potato filling.

Legend has it that placinte first appeared in Romania and Moldavia during the Roman Empire.

The locals consume large quantities of this particular cake, because apart from being one of the traditional and beloved dishes, it is also very tasty.

Important Moldovan personalities and celebrities have placinte in their daily diet, either in the morning, at noon, or in the afternoon.

Taste it and you will understand why it is loved by locals and of course tourists visiting Chisinau.

One of the restaurants serving excellent placinte is La Plăcinte.
