Dear sports fans,
Bangor is a city rich in history and culture. The castles will fascinate you, the city’s University gives a different vitality to everyday life and the food emits explosions of flavors.
Be sure to try the “Welsh Rarebit” which is a classic Welsh dish. When someone hears its name, they think it’s a recipe that includes rabbit.
However, this is not exactly the case, regardless of the fact that there are many myths surrounding its name.
First, we have to emphasize that this is a strange open cheese toast! Specifically, on a piece of toasted bread is a hot cheese sauce, mustard and sauce (usually Worcestershire).
The history of the Welsh Rarebit begins in the early 18th century. It is estimated that it was first heard in 1725. Towards the end of the 18th century it began to have various variations. Instead of Welsh, English and Scottish emerged. Also, there are other variations.
Some believe that the naming was the result of a joke, as the rabbit has nothing to do with this particular dish.
There were not a few who did not laugh at the rabbit joke. They thought it was a misplaced joke that should not have been made two centuries earlier.
Try the Welsh Rarebit, because it is one of the signature dishes of Wales and especially of Bangor.
One of the restaurants serving this particular dish is Bwyd Da Bangor (Address: 275 High St, Bangor LL57 1UL)
