It is located north of the Arctic Circle and is the 12th largest city in Norway and the 2nd largest in the northern part of the country. *** BODO CATHEDRAL (Torvgata 12, 8006 Bodø)

It was built in 1956 and replaced the previous church that had been bombed in World War II. It became one of the first in Norway to have a detached bell tower. There you will also find a memorial to those who died during the Second World War.

*** NORDLAND MUSEUM (Prinsens gate 116, 8005 Bodø)

The Museum was founded in 1888 and hosts 4 exhibitions dealing with local history and dating from the Viking Age to the mid-20th century.

*** SALTSTRAUMEN

Visit the 3 km long strait to enjoy one of the strongest tidal currents in the world. More than 400 million cubic meters of water pass through there and the images you will see are fantastic. Of course also visit Saltstraumen Museum.

*** ΝΟRWEGIAN AVIATION MUSEUM (Børtindgata 35B, 8004 Bodø)

See up close the huge collection of aircraft that will leave you speechless. It is the national aviation museum in Norway and presents the history of the country. You will have the opportunity to see military and civilian aircraft.

It is worth a visit to the museum which opened its doors in 1988 and you will have the opportunity to see objects, uniforms and weapons mainly related to the Second World War.

It is one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. Its architecture and activities are unique! It is the “pride” of the city.

Dating from the mid-13th century, the original baroque altarpiece from 1670 depicting Biblical figures and events is worth seeing.

See the over 4 centuries history of the city and northern Norway in the fish trade and beyond. There you will find the latest of Nordland’s jets, the Anna Karoline.

If you are a fan of shows (theatre, dance, music), then you should definitely find a ticket and experience the acoustic magic offered by the huge hall that can hold 900 people. But even if you can’t find a ticket, it’s worth visiting as a tourist.

*** If you like the sea, then live the Saltstraumen by RIB experience! You will be impressed by the natural phenomena and you may meet the rare sea eagles, porpoises and ducks.

*** Arrange a day trip to Svartisen which is the second largest glacier in Norway and the most accessible by freezing in Europe.

*** About half an hour from the city center is Kjerringøy, you are immediately impressed by the picturesque scenery and you will feel the northern Norwegian coastal culture.

FOOD AND DRINK

You will be impressed with the gastronomy of the city, which has many award-winning restaurants. The town is famous for møsbrømlefse, dried cod, boknafisk. They are three dishes that you must definitely try to feel the taste and aromas of Bodo. Fish and seafood have a dominant position in the cuisines of the locals. In general, you can find restaurants that include American, Asian and Mediterranean cuisine.

There are not many hotels, but most are in the city center. There are also some accommodations located near the beach.
