Transnistria has been an independent, unrecognized state since 1990. Tiraspol is its capital and is about 70 km away from the capital of Moldova, Chisinau. *** LENIN MONUMENT (Strada 25 Octombrie, Tiraspol)
It was erected in 1987 on the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution and stands in front of the Pridnestrovie Supreme Council. It is one of the most popular spots in Tiraspol.
*** MONUMENT TO AVIATORS (Yunosti St., Tiraspol 3300)
It is a monument dedicated to the pilots of the 17th Airborne Army that liberated the city in 1944 as part of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. To honor them they placed the MiG-19 fighter on a pedestal. There is also Aviator Square.
*** NATIONAL BOTANIC GARDEN (Strada Păcii 50, Tiraspol)
The garden is worth visiting to see unique collections of different trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, spices and medicinal plants. See the garden with over 200 varieties of roses in the center of the garden.
*** MUSEUM OF LOCAL HISTORY (Strada 25 Octombrie 46, Tiraspol)
Inaugurated in 1958, it has various collections related to the history of the city in different periods and eras.
*** CHURCH OF THE PROTECTION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD (ul. Kutuzova 201, Tiraspol 3300)
It was built in 1998 to honor the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, built in the 19th century and destroyed by the Soviet authorities in the 1930s. See the architecture and historical library.
*** CATHERINE PARK
It was named after the Russian empress who signed the decree establishing the city. See the 4.5 meter high bronze monument of Catherine II.
*** MONUMENT TO SUVOROV (Strada 25 Octombrie, Tiraspol 3300)
The monument to Alexander Suvorov, the founder of the city, was inaugurated on November 23, 1979. It is the trademark of Tiraspol.
*** DIOCESE OF TIRASPOL AND DUBASARI (Strada Șevcenco 25, Tiraspol)
It dates from the late 1990s and is a diocese of the Diocese of Chisinau and all of Moldova. See its impressive architecture.
*** ZELINSKY MUSEUM (Strada 25 Octombrie 44, Tiraspol)
It is the house where Soviet hero and chemist Nikolai Zelinsky spent part of his life. He had invented the gas mask and many soldiers were saved during the First World War.

FOOD AND DRINK
Tiraspol is famous for its very tasty cuisines with Russian, Moldavian and Romanian influences. Try sarmale and succulent mititei which are grilled ground meat rolls. Order borscht soup, polenta with cheese and sour cream, stuffed bell peppers, kebaps, meatballs, fish fried which is fried fish, chicken noodle soup and moldovan pie. Try the traditional pastas, coltunasi reminiscent of ravioli and the delicacies of the meat dishes. Tiraspol has excellent wine. So, don’t hesitate to accompany your food with the local wine.

Many prefer to stay in Chisinau and go to Tiraspol on the day of the games, returning to the capital of Moldova immediately after the games. However, there are hotels and apartments to stay in Tiraspol and discover the city.
