KUTAISI: Bagrati Cathedral, a history of a thousand years

Dear sports fans,

In 1003 during the reign of Vagrat III, Bagrati Cathedral was built that was to become the symbol of Georgia’s power for over a thousand years. Kutaisi boasts one of the most important cultural heritage sites it has and is a reference point from one end of the planet to the other.

Its special architecture is a hallmark of Georgian culture.

Over the years it suffered destruction, but the locals always made sure to proceed with its reconstruction and renovation, because it was a symbol of the country’s unity.

Tour the interior and exterior of the Cathedral. See the three-bay cruciform structure with transverse arms and four independent ones under the domes.

Architecture connoisseurs report that its construction was one of the most important progressive constructions at that time.

If you enter the interior of the temple, then you will feel the aura of the 11th century and realize that there are still some traces of frescoes from previous centuries.

Your presence in Kutaisi requires a visit to one of the most important temples in Europe.

For the city of Georgia, it is probably the most photographed monument and for this reason it is always visited with reverence by locals and tourists.

Opening hours are from 10am to 8pm (local time).
