*** FREIBURG MUNSTER CATHEDRAL (Münsterplatz, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau)

Its construction began around 1200 and was in the Romanesque style. It took over 300 years to complete its construction. Its design required incredible foresight from generation to generation. The west tower is considered one of the most beautiful bell towers on the planet. The ornate top represents the first time in the history of Gothic architecture that a belfry was built on an open lattice structure.

*** SCHWABENTOR (Oberlinden 25, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau).

This point has historical significance. It was built in the mid-13th century as the city’s gate, part of Freiburg’s defense system to protect its citizens.

*** MARTINSTOR (Martinsgässle, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau).

There used to be a total of five medieval gates. There are now two left. In addition to the Schwabentor, enjoy the Martinstor which in turn has survived many wars. It was originally chosen as a witch-hunting monument, but was primarily a prison for debtors rather than witches.

It’s a historic department store, which is dominated by its red facade. Its construction dates back to 1378 and was a reference point for traders. It used to be a warehouse for goods.

It was built in 1859 and will take you back millennia. Enjoy exhibits from the oldest works of art in southern Baden to medieval Freiburg. You will enjoy Paleolithic female statuettes, trophies of Roman achievements, while you can experience a Roman fashion show.

Don’t, miss this journey into the history of art and the city of Freiburg by artist Johann Christian Wentzinger. You can admire Wentzinger’s artwork and see how Freiburg was founded in 1120, exhibits on the cathedral and how it survived the wars.

First of all, you have to visit Markthalle, where you will be pleasantly surprised. You will find afghan national dish of Quabili Palau, the Brazilian bean stew Feijoada, or Schäufele, a pork specialty from Baden and a lot of dishes from different cuisines. If you are a gourmand, then you are in the right city. In many restaurants you will enjoy awesome Mediterranean cuisine! Of course you will try local Baden dishes, local beer and wines for which Freiburg is famous. Eat asparagus and you will remember us !!!! Also, eat fried potatoes, strips of Lyoner sausage and a dollop of quark mixed with fresh herbs. If you like sweets, try the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte.
