Dear sports fans,

Bern is one of the most fairytale cities in Europe. The beautiful natural landscapes, the magnificent architecture and the culinary magic will make you fall in love with the Swiss capital.

If you visit Bern for a sporting event or simply for tourist reasons, then we would recommend you to try “rösti”.

It is a type of fried potato, which is made from grated potatoes.

And their recipe is as follows: The grated potatoes are either baked with the skin on or fried whole in hot butter. Some chefs prefer to fry them even in fat.

It is crispy on the outside, but on the inside it is so soft that it will melt in your mouth.

In most restaurants in Bern, as well as other Swiss cities, rösti includes a mixture of bacon or cheese. Others ask for onion too!

Over the decades, and since most locals consider it a national dish of Switzerland, they prefer to accompany it with spinach, fried eggs on top or sausages.

For many years it was the food of Bernese farmers, but gradually it also passed to the menus of the top restaurants in Switzerland.
