LOVECH: ONE OF THE MOST HISTORICAL CITIES

It is considered one of the cities that can be characterized as “hidden treasures” of Bulgaria. The findings show that the first inhabitants of the city date back to the 4th century BC. It has a rich history and culture. For years it was a center of strategic importance and in the 19th century it had played an important role in the Bulgarian struggle against the Turks. Over the years it was considered one of the cities in the Balkans where foreign languages would be taught.

 FOOD AND DRINK

Lovech has excellent cuisine and we would recommend you to try their traditional dishes. Taste the classic tarator soup, kapama, panagyurski poached eggs, sarmi, shkembe, moussaka, bob chorba and mish mash. If you like mixed meats then order Meshana Skara. From salads try the local shopska, shepherd’s salad and for the road eat the traditional cheese pie banitsa. Of course you will find in the city many restaurants with cuisines from all over the world. The traditional drink of  Bulgaria is Rakia. We would recommend you drink Boza as well.
